Dr Chris Jones - Labour Parliamentary Candidate for Norwich North
Dr Chris Jones was selected as Labour’s candidate for the Norwich North constituency to stand in June’s general election. He was narrowly defeated by the incumbent Tory Chloe Smith, losing by just 507 votes.
Chris is a retired NHS consultant who worked in Norwich North for 15 years. He is passionate about improving mental health services and social care. He now works for a local charity supporting people appealing against cuts to their disability benefits and volunteers at the Sewell Barn Theatre on Constitution Hill.
“I am proud to be Labour’s candidate for Norwich North in June’s general election. I worked in St Andrew’s and Hellesdon hospitals, in Norwich prison, and in our local community, for 15 years and as a consultant psychiatrist I saw the effect of NHS cuts on the most vulnerable in our society. I’ve never worked in politics but I wouldn’t be doing my best as a doctor if I didn’t stand up for the people who need help and who rely on our public services every day.
The current Tory government has overseen the biggest cuts to our public services in a generation. The NHS and social care is in crisis, our schools are struggling under the weight of the budget cuts and cuts to police budgets are putting us at risk. At the same time, they have given tax breaks to the rich. We need a government that works for everyone and invests in our future.
People here in Norwich North need a passionate local representative who will put them first. I will work tirelessly between now and June to let local people know that this general election will be a choice between a Labour Party that will stand up for the people of Norwich North or a Conservative Party that only looks after the privileged few."
