Hellesdon Street Lights Petition

Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Norwich North Karen Davis is campaigning to stop Broadland District Council charging Hellesdon residents twice for street lights. Here’s why:

Hellesdon residents are being penalised for lack of central government funding, while Tory councils continue to pass the buck.

Due to a reduction in the revenue grant from central government, Norfolk County Council passed responsibility for street lighting to Broadland District Council. Broadland District Council then attempted to burden Hellesdon Parish Council with the cost, but they refused.

Now Broadland District Council is intending to charge Hellesdon residents for street lighting – presumably via their already increased council tax, meaning that people living in Hellesdon are effectively paying twice for street lights.

We the undersigned call on Broadland District Council to abandon their plan to unfairly twice charge the residents of Hellesdon for street lighting.

This petition will be delivered to Broadland District Council, Thorpe Lodge, 1 Yarmouth Road, Norwich, NR7 0DU.
