The meeting for Norwich North members to choose their parliamentary candidate will be held at Blackfriars Hall, Norwich, NR3 1AU, on Saturday 16th December starting at 11am. Doors will be open from 10:30am.
Those eligible to attend and vote are Norwich North members who joined the Labour Party on or before 18 April 2017, who are fully paid up. Members need to ensure they arrive in good time, as anyone arriving after the first candidate has started to speak will not be able to vote. You will need to remain for the whole of the selection meeting to be eligible to vote. Bring your current party membership card, or other proof of identity.
The meeting will follow a 'Question Time' format with all three candidates appearing together. Each candidate will speak for 5 minutes at the start, with order decided by drawing lots.
This will be followed by questions from members, taken from the floor – please keep questions short to allow as many members as possible to take part. Total time for Q&A will be 60 minutes.
Each candidate will then have two minutes for closing remarks, speaking in reverse order from their initial speech.
The meeting will be chaired by Jo Smith (Chair of Selection Committee). Matthew Fulton-McAlister (Procedures Secretary) will explain the voting method.
The ballot will be by alternative (preferential) vote, with the votes of the bottom candidate after each count being redistributed according to expressed preferences.
The count will be held immediately following the hustings meeting and the result announced following completion of the count.
