New £100k Love Norwich Fund to tackle environmental crime

An extra £100,00 fund to tackle issues such as fly-tipping, graffiti and littering has been announced by Labour-run Norwich City Council.

This will form a new Love Norwich Fund, building on the council’s existing campaign to help communities keep our city safe and clean. Measures the fund could contribute to include CCTV cameras for identified hotspots.

The council’s Love Norwich project aims to reduce the amount of environmental crime in the city through education, enforcement and community enabling. This has included working with businesses to better manage trade waste, new dual bins in the city and work on bin stores on council housing estates to reduce fly-tipping.

The fund was announced at last night’s Norwich City Council cabinet meeting, where Cllr Cate Oliver, cabinet member for environmental services, moved an amendment to the council’s upcoming Budget in order to create the Fund.

A cross-party working group, led by Labour’s Cllr Ian Stutely, was set up in 2021 to scrutinise issues around fly-tipping and related environmental issues. This work has helped informed the council’s approach.

Cllr Alan Waters, Leader of Norwich City Council, says:

“We know that tackling environmental crime and making sure Norwich remains a great place to live and work is something residents care deeply about, which is why we are investing to create a new £100k Love Norwich Fund.  The vast majority of people do their bit to keep our beautiful city looking clean and tidy. This new fund will be available to take enforcement action in cases where this doesn’t happen, alongside other initiatives.

The work our teams and contractors carry out on waste, recycling, fly-tipping and graffiti are some of the most highly rated services we provide and people tell us this through a number of means, including our budget consultation.”
