Labour Group at Norwich City Council’s motion on protecting pollinators in our city – proposed by Cllr Matthew Packer (cabinet member for health and wellbeing) and seconded by Cllr Jacob Huntley – has passed at tonight’s meeting of full council.

Labour-led Norwich City Council is committed to helping to conserve the UK’s pollinators by ensuring the council will consider the needs of pollinators in the delivery of its duties and work. The council a track record over a number of years of supporting and promoting pollinators in the city amongst other things through:

• Managing the city’s green space to provide greater benefits for pollinators.
• Planting more wildflowers
• Working with community groups to increase the number and variety of wildflowers and plants planted to attract pollinators
• Not using neonics

Cllr Matthew Packer says:

“The council will seek to further protect and increase the amount and quality of pollinator habitat and manage its green space to provide greater benefits for pollinators. We are committed to doing this through the work we undertake, seeking to influence our partners and central government.

We will ensure local people are provided with opportunities to make Norwich more pollinator friendly. The council already undertakes important actions to help pollinators however, we should always aspire to do more. The motion this evening commits us to doing just that”
