A total of six Norwich City Council parks and open spaces have been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award this week: including three parks who are receiving the Award for the first time.
The Green Flag Awards recognises parks and green spaces that are notably well-managed, accessible and meet the communities they serve. It is considered the benchmark standard for the management of outdoor spaces in the UK and across the world. Green Flag judges visit nominated parks and score them against a range of criteria, including around environmental management, biodiversity, landscaping, community involvement, cleanliness and safety.
The Norwich City Council-run parks receiving the Award for 2024-25 are:
- Eaton Park
- Heigham Park (new)
- Jenny Lind Park (new)
- Kett’s Heights (new)
- Mousehold Heath
- Waterloo Park
Cllr Emma Hampton, cabinet member with responsibility for parks and open spaces, said:
“A huge thanks to all our volunteers and staff who work tirelessly all year to maintain and improve all our parks and green spaces in Norwich.
These spaces are vital for our communities to socialise, enjoy nature, and for children to play safely, and of course it provides important opportunities for park users to improve their physical and mental health.”
